1EC’s Jonathan Miller was in the Court of Appeal on 23 & 24 May, in the case of Deutsche Bank AG v Central Bank of Venezuela (instructed by Zaiwalla & Co and led by Richard Lissack KC). This case is the long-running dispute over control of the gold reserves of Venezuela deposited in the Bank of England. In this latest instalment, the Banco Central de Venezuela in Caracas argued for the recognition in the United Kingdom of judgments from the Tribunal Supremo de Justicia (the Supreme Constitutional Court in Venezuela). Judgment is currently reserved.
